Pyramidal System

Motor impulses originate in the pyramidal cells or Betz cells of the motor arean (precentral gyrus of cerebral cortex).

Every part of the body is represented in the primary motor cortex and these are arranged somatotopically

These are the upper motor neurons of the corticospinal tract.

Normal movement involves integrated muscle activity that is modulated by the activity of the cerebral cortex, basal ganglia, cerebellum, red nucleus, brainstem reticular formation, lateral vestibular nucleus, and spinal cord.1
